RésuméDepuis les temps les plus reculés, l'histoire du peuple afro-américain se confond avec celle de ses chants sacrés, les negro spirituals puis les gospel songs qui sont à la base de toutes les musiques noires du XXéme siècle : blues, jazz, rythm and blues, soul music, rap... Ces chants expriment leur foi intense dans l'espoir d'un monde meilleur mais aussi une soif de liberté qui passe aussi par la reconnaissance de leur culture et de leurs droits.
